MOUNTAIN GROVE PHYSICIAN HONORED WITH COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Dr. Nancy Hayes, board-certified family medicine physician at St. John’s Clinic-Mountain Grove, received the Community Service Recognition award at the annual St. John’s Mercy Service Awards banquet earlier this month.  Dr. Hayes, has served the patients of Mountain Grove for more than 20 years, but was nominated by her fellow physicians for her dedicated work with the Amish community.

Dr. Hayes spends her days off about 40-miles from Mountain Grove serving patients in the large Amish community in Webster County.  There she holds a prenatal clinic twice a month performing checkups on some of the homebound and after-hour visits for emergency injuries.  The Amish community in Webster County number about 3000. Most women deliver their babies at home, so Dr. Hayes has attended a dozen at-home births, using each as an opportunity to teach midwives childbirth basics.
