St. John's bariatric surgery
program named center of excellence
May 9, 2008
St. John’s
Bariatric Surgery Program has been named a Center of Excellence. It is the
sixth Missouri program to achieve that designation from the National Surgery
Review corporation. A center of excellence holds the highest level of
efficacy, efficiency, and safety in a bariatric program, and those locations
are among the most comprehensive and multi-disciplinary surgical weight loss
programs.
The
Surgical Review Corporation
assesses programs
to ensure that guidelines and procedures are met, the facility has proper
equipment and the staff is well trained in order to become a Center of
Excellence.
“The patient can be assured that the institutions bearing the Center of
Excellence designation perform a minimum amount of bariatric procedures per
year, maintain staff education regarding the care of the bariatric patient;
maintain appropriate equipment for safe care; and have developed a
multidisciplinary approach to the preoperative, intraoperative, and
postoperative care and support of the weight loss surgery patient,” said
Mary Trampler, Nurse Coordinator of St. John’s
Bariatric Surgery.
A
highly trained team of surgeons, nurses, nutritionists, exercise specialists
and psychologists allow St. John's to offer patients safe and effective
weight-loss surgery, comprehensive pre- and post-op education and ongoing
aftercare. St. John’s Bariatric Surgery Program
began in 2004.
